We are so thrilled to launch this coffee from Pedro Gomez, our first coffee from Chiapas!

This lot from Tenejapa is so rich and full. It reminds us of cocoa butter and tangerine. There is a very nice tropical undertone with notes of tamarind and pineapple, and a rich caramel sweetness.
As it cools down, we sometimes perceived cocoa nibs and roasted coconut (but we often it drink it too fast to notice this 😋)

We source this coffee through Osito, and they work with Pedro through a company on the ground in Chiapas called Cafeólogo.
The founder, Jesús Salazar, helps source just about all their coffees from Chiapas.  He has very well-established relationships in Tenejapa where the communities are quite closed.
Most of these remote towns are populated by Mayan communities with very few Spanish speakers.  As such, they tend to be quite insular.
Pedro is the leader of a small family group of farmers and is the only Spanish speaker of the group.

Pedro was paid around 90 MXN/KG (~50% above market price in Mexico)for his parchment.  FOB was 4.50$/lb USD and we paid 5,75 USD.

We love Mexican coffees. They play a big part in what we do and is now our most popular origin.
